Estates panel 4
Why nobody finds your Telford unit online
Invisible online rarely means broken. A Telford firm is usually indexed, technically functional and simply absent from the results its buyers see. Eight causes account for almost all of it.
Invisible is not the same as unranked
Ranking for a phrase proves the demand exists. It does not mean a single buyer has seen you. A page sitting at position forty is in the index and out of sight.
This is the most common condition on the Shropshire estates. The site works, the pages load, and nobody arrives.
Diagnosis therefore starts with which pages earn impressions rather than with which pages exist. Google Search Console answers that question in about ten minutes.
Group one
Causes one to four: the pages cannot be read
One. Your capability lives in a PDF
A downloadable catalogue is the most common single cause on an engineering site. Search engines handle PDFs poorly and AI retrieval often skips them altogether. Twenty years of capability then sits in a file that nothing can quote.
Two. One services page covers fourteen capabilities
A page needs a subject before it can rank for anything. A list of fourteen processes has no subject at all. Splitting it is usually the largest single gain available to a Telford manufacturer.
Three. The site is slow on a phone in a yard
Buyers check suppliers on a phone with two bars of signal. Oversized product photographs and a heavy theme turn a three second load into fifteen. Compressing the images alone recovers most of that.
Four. The pages that matter are four clicks down
Crawl budget and human patience both run out with depth. A capability page reachable only through three menus gets visited less by Google and less by buyers. Two clicks from the homepage is the working target.
Group two
Causes five to eight: the firm cannot be verified
Five. Your address is written four ways
Telford estate names break directory formatting more than most addresses do. Halesfield 19 and Stafford Park 4 are complete street names. Systems that tidy them into something more conventional create a second version of your business.
Six. Accreditation logos carry no text
A reader recognises a badge instantly. A machine reading the page learns nothing at all from an image. Naming the standard and the certifying body in text turns a picture into a citable fact.
Seven. The trading name and the legal name never meet
Plenty of Shropshire firms trade under one name and file accounts under another. Nothing connects the two unless your own site says so. One sentence on the about page closes a gap that otherwise splits your identity in half.
Eight. Nothing has been touched since the redesign
A site built once and left alone stays technically functional and quietly uncompetitive. Competitors publishing steadily overtake it without doing anything clever. This is the easiest of the eight to fix and the least often noticed.
The uncomfortable one
Impressions arrive long before clicks do
A page can collect thousands of impressions and almost no clicks for months. That is normal and it is not evidence the work has failed.
It is evidence that you are present and not yet visible. The gap between those two states is where most of the work actually sits.
Four checks that tell you which cause is yours
Four checks separate the eight causes without any tooling you have to buy. Each one takes minutes rather than hours.
| Search your own brand | Type your company name into Google. A firm that cannot be found by its own name has an indexing problem rather than a competition problem. |
|---|---|
| Search a capability | Type a process and a county rather than your name. Absence here is the ordinary case and the one worth working on. |
| Open Search Console | Look at which queries earn impressions and at what average position. Presence at position 40 and total absence look identical from the front of a search results page. |
| Search your address | Search the exact address string in quotes. Count how many different versions of it come back at you. |
The numbers behind the diagnosis
clicks from homepage to a capability page MECHANISM
Depth costs crawl frequency and buyer patience at the same rate. Two clicks is the working target.
cost of naming a standard in text MECHANISM
Writing the standard and the certifying body beside the logo costs nothing and makes the claim readable by a machine.

Common questions about being missing from search
How do I know whether the site is indexed at all?
Search for your exact domain name in Google. A site that returns nothing at all has an indexing problem. Search Console will name the reason within a day of verification.
Could a competitor be doing something to us?
Almost never. Attacks on small firms are rare and expensive to run. The likely explanation is one of the eight causes on this page.
We rank fine for our company name. Is that enough?
No. People searching your company name already know you exist. Every new buyer starts from a capability phrase instead.
Does the age of the domain matter?
Less than people assume. An old domain with unreadable pages loses to a newer one with clear pages. Age helps only where a site has been earning trust the whole time.
How long does fixing this take?
Technical fixes can register within days of a recrawl. Structure and content changes commonly take two to four months to settle. Anyone giving you a firm date is guessing.
